Cities are centers of political power and industrial might, education, technology, artistic advancements and medical innovations.

it describes the buildup of the central city and the suburban realm

After the development of agriculture people became more sedentary and began to cluster in certain places, like agricultural villages and town.

Agricultural surplus and social stratification.

The innovation of the city ( occurred independently in five separate hearths)
7. Describethe five places that were originally developed cities:
Mesopotamia: region of big cities like Babylon, located between the rivers euphriates and tigris. There was social inequality within the societybecause of the differences of the houses, they had a priest king class, this means that rulers were always priests.
Nile River Valley: the second urban hearth, dating to 3200 BCE. Evidence supportsthe independent invention of urbanization in the Nile River Valley. People from here did not build walls around their cities, power was concentrated among the people who contolled the irrigation systemof the river.
Indus River Valley: dating to 2200 BCE. . The intricate planning of the cities points to existence of a leadership class, but the houses were the same and the infrastructure wassomewhat the same everywhere.
Yellow and Yangtzi River Valleys: Dating to 1500. The Chinese purposefully planned their ancient cities to center on a vertical structure in the middle of the city and thenbuilt an inner wall around it.
