ALESThe hunt for the thiet

Next morning everyone was talking about the thief. Godfrey joined in the talk and visited the quarry. The ground was wet and showed no clear footprints. But a small tinder-box was lying near the house. Inside it were pieces of stone and metal for making a fire.
It was not Silas’s tinder-box .His was standing in its place in his house “it was the thief’s. he droppedit” most people said. But others did not agree. They could not accept Silas´s strange story. “You’ll see” they said. “Silas took the money himself. Perhaps he didn’t have any. He’s half crazy, ins’t he?

At the bar, Squire Cass and the rector Mr Crackkenthorp, were talking to Mr Snell was telling the other two about the box.
“When I first heard about the tinder-box” he said “I didn’t rememberthis. About a month ago a pedlar visited Raveloe. The pedlar was thirsty and he came to the bar. He carried a tinder-box like that one. He used it when he smoked. Was the box near Marner’s house the pedlar’s tinder-box, do you think?
When they heard about this, the village people took the greatest interest in the pedlar. But Silas could remember nothing about him, “yes” he said to the Squire andthe Rector. “the pedlar came to my door. But he didn’t comei nto the house. I didn’t want anything and so he left” Silas wanted the pedlar to be the thief. He wanted them to search for him. But he could not lie about the man because he was too honest.
People were sorry about Silas’s reply. Some were even a little angry .”of course it was the pedlar” the said to each other. “he didn’t go away Hehid and waited while he was waiting he dropped the tinder by accident. Marner didn’t see him because Marner can’t see anything. These pedlars a very quick he only needed one look at Marner’s face to see that half-crazy look in it
The look of omame whi loves money Marner’s lucky that he wasn´t killed Men like the pedlar often kill for moneyGod frey cass did not agree. He heard the talk aboutthe pedlar in the bar “I don’t think that it was the pedlar he said o bought a knife from the man myself. He had quite a nice smile. He wasn’t a bad man at all
But godfrey was not interested in the thief. Dunstan was not at home and his fears wer e growing “has he had an accident?” Godfrey thought to himself “perhaps he’s sold the horse and is speding the money he’ll come back in a month withoutanything I know him so well. Why did I left him have Wildfire?
He borrowed a horse and rode towards Batherley there perhaps he could bear some news of Dunstan Suddenly he saw another man on a horse and his heart gave a jump. Was it Dunstan on wildfire? He rode more quicklybut ir was Bryce Godfrey did not like the look on his face Bryce rode up to godfrey and stopped.
“your brother’s a lucky man, ins’t he? Bryce asked
Lucky? Why?
Hasn’t he come home?
No Golfrey’s fears were doing What’s he done with the horsei offered hima hundred and twenty pounds for it Bryce sounded troubled it was a very high price but I’ve always liked Wildfire and what did he do? He rode it at a very difficult fence the horse fell and it was killed and dunsey hans’t come home?
No godfrey was very angry so he’skilled my horse if he has any sense he’ll stay away
Ah Bryce said I wasn’t sure I thought that dunsey was selling it without permission
He did have my permission godfrey told him I see bryce dais then where is he? Nobody has seen him in batherley and the fall didn’t hurt him because he walked away nothing hurt him godfrey said angrily he hurts others
He looked away from Bryce and his face wastroubled I was going to batherley he said but there´s no need now you’ve told me enough zre you coming to Raveloe?
