Immigration in the usa from 1945-1965

The United States have always been a country of immigrants. It was initially dominated by native American Indians, that later were moved by the colonies coming from all over Europe, especiallyBritain and Germany. It has been seen as the “Country of Opportunities”, and today is the one with the highest number of people entering, both legally and illegally per year, with a high percentage of thepopulation being foreigners.
From 1945 to 1965 the vast majority of immigrants come from Europe, especially refuges from countries such as Germany, Soviet Union and France; that after World War IIwhere searching for a new home, far away from their homes that were destroyed. The people coming from Latin America and Asia were very low in these years, but today the majority comes from these twocontinents.
After the II World War there were a group of laws that allowed people to come to USA for certain reasons, but with restrictions such as “Quotas”. Some reasons include being the wife of awar soldier, not having family due to war (displaced persons) or because they wanted to escape from political and religious persecution in their natal countries.
This was the case of Cuban citizensthat after the communist revolution wanted to escape from the island. When Fidel Castro took power of the country, many people that were against the regime needed to go away because of thepersecutions, so they ask for an exile in the US. This was a good humanitarian help from part of the American government that received thousands of Cubans because of this.
Hungarian people also migrate toAmerica due to the fail in their uprising in order to overthrown the communist government in charge. After they loose the fight the USSR start to seek for the rebels so thousands of people start talks withUSA in order to be allowed in the country. Jew people that escape from the communist regime in their countries or that were survivors of the Holocaust also find a heaven in the US, where they lived...
