For a long time, most Americans have criticized illegal immigrants as a harm to the nation. This is wrong, Illegal immigrants benefit the nation in severaltypes of ways.
First, illegal immigrants paying taxes benefit the nation, because they do not get anything in exchange. Teresa Morris stated that taxes were the government budget, thereforeimmigrants were bringing the economy down by not paying taxes. The argument made by Morris does not make any sense. She is not well informed in the topic and does not have evidence supporting what she isstating. “Undocumenteds contribute more to public coffers in taxes than they cost in social services” (Lipman). Every year, illegal immigrants add billions of dollars in sales, property and income taxes,including health care taxes to federal, state and local coffers. In exchange, immigrants do not get benefits. The only benefits required for undocumented immigrants are emergency medical care andelementary and secondary education. But, they are afraid to use them because of the fear of getting deported. Illegal immigrants are under the same tax laws, but they pay higher effective tax, even thoughthe undocumenteds use fewer government services than United States citizens. This is why immigrants produce more than they cost (Lipman).
Moving onto another benefit, illegal immigrants take ondangerous and hard low wage jobs due to the fact that in their home countries even a normal job that requires no education, like the ones taken in the United States are well underpaid. In Mexico, fivedollars an hour is an above average pay for a low-income job such as mowing the loan or collecting vegetables from a field.
