In Class Discussion

The topic covered in class was making organizational decisions. Before I could see what the assignment was all about, in my mind, I thought there were only 2 types of decision styles. The two beingeither the manager making the overall decisions or as a committee/group. According to the handout we were given, there are a total of six types of management decision styles. These included decisionssuch as making decisions individually by the manager, others managers speaking to subordinates, and others as a group. We were presented with different case scenarios and were to assign the bestdecision style individually.

Assigning the cases to a specific decision style was not a simple task. Several times I was stuck between 2 others between 3 styles. I went ahead and just chose whoeversounded most accurate. After we were all done individually, we were to share our answers as a group. We went ahead and shared our selected management style for each case. Since the group members usuallyagreed between 2-3 different types of styles, we only discussed those selected ones. We went around as a group and shared our ideas as to why we selected the style that we did.

Some of the caseswere easier to come up with a consensus decision than others. For this assignment, I noticed some of us being more frustrated about not coming up with a consensus decision than with other assignments.I was able to see this as some of our tones of voice were rising. I believe this might have happened due to the fact that we felt strongly about the way in which we should go about the situation.Although we become frustrated, we always keep in mind that we must work as a group to have the best results.

At the end of the assignment, professor provided us with the Decision Process Flow Chart.We briefly discussed each case and then followed the chart for the best management decision style. Going through the flow chart was a good way to show us as a class how to go about each decision...
