The Independence Day is celebrated the fourth of July. The Americans celebrate the independence of the Americans colonies of Great Britain and they remember the ideals of liberty, equality andopportunity for everybody.
The American Revolution
In the XVIII century there were 13 British colonis in America. But this colonies began to protest. They had to pay high taxes to Great Britain and theAmericans don’t like that.
A number of different acts of protest started the American Revolution.
The Boston Tea Party was the most famous of the different riots. This riot begun with a new taxon the tea. The Americans don’t like that and decided to throw away the tea they received from Great Britain.
The British don’t like that and reacted with severe laws.
In April 1775 the Americanwar of Independece began.
A group of 56 Americans wrote the Declaration of Independence. On 4 july 1776 the leaders of the Revolution approved this document.

The first time they read the Declaration of Independence was in Philadelphia the 8 July of 1775. After reading it they rang the “Liberty Bell” . It became a tradition toring this bell every 4 July.
In 1781 the American (and French) soldiers won an important battle in Virginia. In 1783 America and Great Britain signed the final peace in Paris.
The American FlagThe Americans colonist needed a new flag for their country. In 1776 George Washington asked to Betsy Ross to male their flag.
The new flag had thirteen stripes and a circle with thirteen stars. Nowthere are fifty stars, one for each state.
Independence Day Today
The Americans celebrate 4 July with many different activities. They put their flag on public buildings, they salute the flagbefore they start the day’s lessons, they make patriotic speeches, parades, baseball game, competitions, music, dancing, picnics, barbecues and fireworks and start the NASCAR competition.
