Biography
An accomplished flamenco singer from a young age, India Martinez has become one of the genre's most intriguing contemporary performers thanks to her fusion of Hindu and Arab music withthe sound of her Andalusian roots. Born in Cordoba in 1985, she began studying flamenco at age five, and after moving to Almeria with her family, regularly sung in the town's cafes under the name of "LaNina del Puerto". In 1998, she reached the final of children's TV talent contest Veo, Veo, which led to spots at various festivals, flamenco penas, and competitions, one of which earned her ascholarship to the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville. In 2003, she released her debut album, Azulejos de Lunares, but spent most of the decade concentrating on recitals at both Spanish and internationalforums. In 2009, she returned with her world music-inspired sophomore disc, Despertar, and followed it up in 2011 with Trece Verdades.

En 2003 firma con el sello La Voz del Sur ypublica su álbum de debut, Azulejos de Lunares, al año siguiente. Este álbum se compone de boleros clásicos, bulerías y tangos.
El disco cuenta con la dirección y arreglos musicales de José MaríaCortina. Intervienen los instrumentos de Ricardo Rivera, Giuseppe Salvador, Daniel Méndez, Diego del Morao y Alfredo Lagos (guitarras), Manolo Nieto (bajo) y Bandolero (percusión).
Despertar[editar]
Enfebrero de 2009 publica su segundo álbum Despertar. Ese mismo año recibe la nominación a los Premios Grammy Latinos 2009 como Mejor Nuevo Artista. Además, su trabajo Despertar es nominado en esa mismaedición en la categoría de Mejor Ingeniería de Grabación. En Despertar, India Martínez recorre diferentes palos como guajira, rumba, tangos, romances, alborea o trilla, mezclado con sonidos étnicos,con el objetivo de recordar sus orígenes, conservarlos y ensalzarlos.
