W-1 - W-7 SUNSLICE TOWERS
On the south side of the site along 30th Street are 6 “sun slice” towers whose profile is shaped via sun angle calculations which vary in season and time of day focusing sunlight in the suspended park. These thin variegated residential buildings frame multiple green-space openings along 30th street connecting the parkto both the street and highline levels, which are lined with commercial activities. The towers are clad in a high-performance glazed envelope of varying transparencies and translucencies, and contain wind turbines inside of their thin tops. The podium for the Sun Slice Towers extends under the Highline and provides both street and Highline commercial levels. The podium’s northern half providesservice and parking for the towers.

W-8 POROUS BAR OFFICE BUILING
Along 33rd Street a loft-like building with floorplates of over 100,000 square feet would accommodate a variety of uses, including trading floors, office floors or convention center expansion space. This low 10 story building sits easily over the rail tracks below; the column gridis organized on the 50’ track spacing so that the columns rise directly with no need for platform offsets. The low height gives the park clear exposure to the northern sky. Its exterior is formed in a double-wall of glass and louvered screens of varying densities designed to optimize views and shading. The building will be raised on a grand “peristyle” of columns on a large urban scale, openingthe park to West 33rd Street along the building’s length and providing for lobbies and cafes with terraces fronting the park. To serve all the new inhabitants of this development, the “peristyle” could house an intermodal transit station for the LIRR that uses the platform at the northern edge of the Rail Yards and allows for connections to the No. 7 subway station planned at West 33rd Street and...
