RANDY PAUSCH LECTURE: TIME MANAGEMENT.

In order to Randy’s lecture, we should manage our time properly starting by doing the “ugly things” and then it will be easy to dothe easier ones later. The thing is that we must have a plan, planning is the base of everything even though we have to change or modify our plans later. He gave us some advices like: to break downtasks into smaller tasks, which we can accomplish faster; Find the time we work best and take it for ourselves; And to delegate tasks to people, trusting them and giving them enough confidence andresponsibility.

If we manage our time in a wrong way it will be translated as stress, as simple as that; so when we plan we are supposed to define our goals and our priorities. Planning can be done atmultiple levels: daily, weekly, monthly, etc.

An important part of planning is to keep our work area clean, clear and organized, mostly our work area is our desk, and we should use a filing system,which will make things much easy to store and find.

Other of his advices is to be fast and very punctual when we are at the phone, we must stand up during phone calls, so that will push us to do itquickly; also he motivate us to use speakerphones, and at our offices not to have comfortable chairs.

We must make time for things and not just try to “find” the time; we also need to monitorourselves every 15 minutes, to see what we are doing. This is in order to completely avoid procrastination, because waiting to do things last minute causes a lot more stress.

During meetings there mustbe an agenda, make sure people is really there (paying enough attention and concentrated), meetings should never last more than one hour and close it by recap decisions. Once more it is very importantto delegate tasks.

And to finish we must avoid or better yet, kill the TV, average person watches 28 hours of TV per week, so we need to reduce this time and turn time into money and money into...
