Yes, it is. Actually, some people consider it is the most important square of all thecountry because of all the historical buildings you can find there and on the streets surrounding it .

Yes , it was. When the Spaniardsconquered Tenochitlan, they decided to build their city in the same place where the Aztecs had their main buildings. In fact , they destroyed the Aztec dwellings and build theirs over them. The Zocalocovers the site of the old Aztecs capital's main square where the emperor's palace and the Great Temple once stood. Today, the City Hall , Metropolitan Cathedral, Nacional Palace, National Pawnshop, andsupreme Court of Justice, surround the Zocalo.
