2.1. Organization of the equipment.
The organization of a simple computer is presented in the block diagram
The logical functioning of de hardware brokenup into sevaral modules. Each of which is charged with a discrete set of functions. The physical division of the equipment into cabinets and chassis very often follows the logical structure,but this is not actually necessary.
The functions provided for are control, memory, arithmetic, and input/output.
Their purposes follow. The memory stores both the data to be processed andthe instructions for processing them. The control unit supervises the sequence and manner in which the data are operated on, and it does so as specified by the instructions. Both the instructionsand data currently being operated on are stored in.

Main memory Turing program execution. Most of the data processing operations are carried out the arithmetic module,again with the supervision of the control unit.
Transfer of data and instructions between the human user and the memory is accomplished by the input /output section. A special input/output device,the control panel, serves the operator as a means of Communications and enables him to initiate programs manually.
Each of the functions is discussed in retail below. First, however, it isimportant to understand how these pieces of equipment actually handle and transfer data among themselves. To accomplish that end, we will introduce some Concepts common toa ll of them.
