Plot: A 10 year old named Tonya Hailey who was walkingwith the groceries, was voilently raped by 2 racist men, Tonya survived, and the 2 men were arrested. Tonya's faher, Carl Lee Hailey goes with the lawyer Jake Brigance, and discuss about what happenedto her daughter, they remember a case that happened also about a rape of a black girl by four white teenagers, which were acquitted, so Car Lee is worried that the same situation repeats. Carl Lee getsa rifle and murder Pete and Billy Ray for what they did to Tonya, accidentally algo he injury Looney who has to have his leg amputated, so Carl Lee is arrested and Brigance accepts to be in thedefense for Car Lee for a small amount of money.
Freddie Lee, the brother of Billy Ray, calls Brigance and his family with death threats. Brigance accepts cooperation for this case of Ellen Roark, whichis a law student. The Klan, which has a member of the sheriffs department, burns the house of Brigance, this made Jake send away his wife and daughter to another place.
Freddie Lee tried to shootat Brigance, but he misses. Ellen is kidnapped by the Klans , but she is safed by one of the men of the Klans.
