Beaches
The beaches are the biggest attraction in and around Puerto Plata. The main beach of Puerto Plata is "LongBeach", located just east, along the Malecon. The beach of "Long Beach" is public andurban Puerto Plata. The beaches of Costambar Confresi and are located west of PuertoPlata, and are dominated by resorts and luxury resorts. The beaches inand around PuertoPlata is surrounded by coral reefs, so you can dive and snorkel when the tides are good. In the vicinity of Puerto Plata is "Playa Dorada", this beach is 24 kilometers (15 miles) of stunning white sand. Up and down the coast are other beaches like Cabarete, Boca Crab, Caño Grande, Bergantin, Copello beach and Butterfly Beach. West of Puerto Plata is a favorite,the shaded beach Guarapitao.

Fort San Felipe is located on a small peninsula in the Bay of Puerto Plata, the bay at theChristopher Columbus once had hopes grades. The fort is, in fact, the only vestige of thecolonial past of Puerto Plata. La destileria del ron brugal is located less than one kilometer east of the city limits, on the main road of Sosua, Playa Dorada. Thedistillery is open all week except Saturday and Sunday, from 9am-12pm and 2pm-5pm. Do not pay anything to enter, and in the reception area you will find a very nice guide will escort you into the huge brewery, which producesabout a million and a half liters of white rum and red wine each year. Of course, there wereat prices you can buy discount per liter, and other memorabilia.
