Stopping Premature Extinction of Species
Species must go extinct within time, but it has been proven by biologists that human activities have increased the extinctionrate by at least 1,000 to 10,000. The sad part about it, is that instead of decreasing, is estimated that the extinction rate will increase during the next 50-100 years because of the large ecologicalfootprint. Even though some people say that the data collected by the biologists is not accurate, researchers say that they will continue doing research until they find clear data that estimates rateextinction. We must stop the premature extinction of species because the damages that we are causing to the biodiversity will take at least 5 million years to recover. To prevent premature extinctionof the world’s existing species from human activities I will stop the illegal wildlife smuggling by increasing the consequences faced if the poacher gets caught, reinforce and mandate all countriesto approve the 1995 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, and create sanctuaries to protect wild species.
In poor wildlife areas some people use illegal wildlife smuggling to feedtheir families. There are many laws created to protect endangered species but in countries such as India and Bangladesh where hunting has skyrocketed, if emergency action is not taken, irreparabledamages will be caused. There are only 7,500 tigers in the wild of which 4,000 are in India. Over there a part of the body of a tiger is worth $5,000-20,000. Because the consequences of getting caughtdoing illegal smuggling are not relevant compared to the profit that is made out of it, poachers do not see what they do as the threat that it represents to the environment. Therefore, I willeliminate the option of paying a fine and I will create stronger policies and regulations that have a higher degree of punishment on the guilty side.
