Practical work.
1. Put the verbs in brackets into the simple past or the past continuous tense.

A. When I WAS LOOKING (look) for my passport I FOUND (find) thisold photograph.
B. While he WAS LEARNING (learn) to drive he HAD (have) twenty accidents.
C. Steve HAD (have) an accident yesterday. He WAS DRIVING (drive) his car when a bird FLEW (fly) intothe windscreen. He WAS TRYING (try) to stop quickly but he CRASHED (crash) into a wall. Luckily, he WASN’T (not/ be) hurt.
D. Last week, I WAS GOING (go) to a talk by a famous writer. He WASTALKING (Talk) about his new book when I ARRIVED (arrive). He GAVE (give) such an interesting talk that I WAS (be) disappointed when it ENDED (end)
E. Liz WAS CLEANING (clean) the windows when I SAW(see) her.

2. Put the verbs in brackets into the present perfect or simple past tense.

A. How long HAVE you BEEN (be) out of work?. I’m not out of work, now. I HAVE just STARTED (start) a newjob.
B. HAVE you ever TRIED (try) to give up smoking?. Yes, I TRIED (try) last year, but then I HAVE FAUND (find) that I was getting fat so I STARTED (start) again.
C. The concert BEGAN(begin) at 2: 30 and LASTED (last) for two hours. Everyone ENJOYED (enjoy) it very much.
D. What time DID you GO (go) to bed, last night?
E. She READ (read) her books when she was at school. SheENJOYED (enjoy) them very much.
F. This is my house, How long HAVE you LIVED (live) here? I HAVE LIVED (live) here since 1987.
