The Beautiful Game’s Endless debate
To talk about Pele and Maradona is to talk about the endless debate in the football world. Fifty percent of football fans will say Pele was the greatest and theother fifty will say Maradona. Edson Arantes do Nascimento better known as Pele and Diego Armando Maradona are the two greatest players to ever play the beautiful game. Pele from Brasil, Maradona fromArgentina. Both Pele and Maradona were similar but yet very different players. Pele represents the old school style and Maradona the new era of football, so how do you decide which player is betterthan the other? Medals & trophies, fair play (behavior on and off the pitch), and the main one actual video of their play. Out of the four categories Pele already has two in his favor before theanalyzing even begins.
Would Michael Jordan bee looked at in the same way if he only had 1 NBA championships? No. This just shows the importance of championships when judging an athlete. The WorldCup is the biggest stage in the football world, and Pele participated in his first at the age of 17. Not only was he the youngest player ever to win a World Cup, but he was a key piece in Brasil’schampionship run scoring two of the five goals in the final(Gomez) which made him one of the best players in the world at that time. That started Pele’s reign as footballs best player. He won two moreWorld Cups later on in his career making him the player with the most World Cup wins. Other championships of Pele were;

•Paulistas Championship (1958, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969 y 1973)

• Rio-Sao Paulo League (1959, 1963, 1964 e 1966) 
• UnitedStates National Championship (1977)
