Intel is recognize as the biggest company in silicon innovation and in developing processor technologies as part of their expansion globally they have made big investment of capitalin this Emerging Market, but they have to face some challenges on the way, and also they have clearly made a difference when it comes to deal with a government that is struggling with eradicatecorruption and working in an country that has the sufficient labor force but may not have the sufficient skills to operate in this company facility, here are some examples of this.
Dealing withcorruption.
In 2007 Intel decide to make an investment of $1 billion into building a new factory, which represent the construction of the largest chip assembly and test factory in Vietnam. In this period oftime this acquire even more relevance and occupied all the headlines of Vietnamese news papers because at the same time, Intel signed a pact with the government where this $1 billion contract includedthe commitment of fighting against corruption and improper business conduct (Forbes.com 2007). This was also the first time for Intel to sign this kind of pact for one of their foreign investmentprojects and started a precedent in the country because it was also the first time that a government agency makes this kind of deal.
Lack of sufficient skilled workers.
After making an investment of$1 billion in a new chip assembly and test plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Intel faced new problems (asme.org, 2011), the new plant needed at least 900 engineers. And in a country that although ishaving a fast growing economy and a fast infrastructure development, some of this new technology intensive manufacturing jobs may not be successfully filled by the best skilled workers.
