A. Location
Bolivia is a central South American country. It shares borders with Brazil in thenortheast and east; Paraguay in the east and southeast; Argentina in the south; Chile in the west; and Peru in the west and northwest. Bolivia has an area of 1,098,580 square kilometers (424,162 square miles), of which 14,190 square kilometers (5,479 square miles) are water. Bolivia is just slightly less than 3 times the size of the U.S. state of Montana. Bolivia is divided into 3 distinctgeographical areas: (1) the high mountains ( cordillera ) with its high plateau ( altiplano ), (2) the intermediate valleys (between the mountains and the lowlands), and (3) the eastern plains of the Amazon and Plate river system.

B. Climate
The weather in Bolivia can vary drastically from one climatic zone to another. The summer months in Bolivia are November through March. The weather istypically warmer and wetter during these months. April through October, the winter months, are typically colder and drier.
In the highlands, the weather can be very cold and temperatures frequently go below zero at night, especially on the Altiplano. Snow is common in Potosi during the winter months and sometimes also falls on La Paz and Oruro. In contrast, winter in Sucre, Cochabamba and Tarija on theCordillera Real is a time of blue skies and comfortable temperatures.
The weather in the rainforest is usually very hot and is often very wet. The drier period of the year is May to October. The section of the rainforest that borders the Cordillera Real of the Andes Mountains is a bit cooler, but still very wet. As altitude declines, the temperature rises.

Bolivia's climate on the Altiplanofrom November to March is very dry and sunny during the day and cold at night. The Laguna Verde is on the Altiplano near the Chilean border.

The climate along the Cordillera Real is pleasant all year round and is optimal for lounging around in city parks.

Telephone and internet
According to 2005 figures, there are 646,300 main telephone lines in Bolivia and 2.421 million mobile telephones, but new subscribers to the telephone network can encounter bureaucraticdifficulties. Most telephones are found in La Paz and other cities, and the use of mobile telephones is increasing rapidly in the country.
Domestic telephones use a primary trunk system, which is undergoing expansion. The system also makes use of fibre optic cables and digital microwave radio relay. For international telecommunications, the country has a satellite earth station and uses one Intelsat.The telephone country code for Bolivia is 591.
In 2006, in Bolivia, there were 20,085 internet hosts, and 480,000 users of the internet.
Radio and television
There are 171 AM, 73 FM and 77 shortwave radio broadcast stations in Bolivia, serving around 5.25 million radios, in 1997. In the same year, there were 48 television stations, serving 900,000 televisions.
