BACKGROUND (how the crisis started)
The Economic crisis of 2008 and 2009 is known to the world economic crisis
that began that year, originated in the United States. Among
the main factors causingthe crisis would be high raw material prices,
the overvaluation of the product, a global food crisis, high inflation
and global threat of a worldwide recession and a credit crisis,
mortgage andconfidence in the markets"
General Motors told the American government to give them money to keep working with the company. They quote with the stocks, GM is a huge transnational company, November 11 of2008, they started losing 97% of their value. Suzuki bought the stocks, and GM had the opportunity to buy them again. The problems of GM started when Rick Wagoner got into the presidency of the company,and they started having problems with the environment and all the pollution they were making. On march 2009 Wagoner quits because of the pressure of the White House, the same year on April, GM wasunder pressure of the government of the U.S., they wanted to close the company. They just focused their production on Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. They didn’t want to produce the Pontiac brand.They Close 13 production plants. GM stopped paying their actives value in 82.300 millions of dollars (58.000 millions of euros) and a debt of 172.800 millions of dollars (122.500 millions of euros).On 2 June 2009, General Motors appeared before a New York court upheld the request for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Law in the U.S. and, therefore, declared bankruptcy. His actions in the NYSE came tooscillate with a high volatility in the day, between a minimum level of 0.49 and a maximum of $ 1.01 per share, when in April 2000 came to be 90.11 dollars.
In September 2008, problems were compounded bythe bankruptcy of several
financial institutions regarding the market for home mortgages as
investment bank Lehman Brothers, mortgage companies Fannie Mae and
