UNITED NATIONS

Ireland joined the United Nations (UN) on December 14, 1955. I enter the UN;Ireland has sought to promote effective action international disarmament, peacekeeping, human rights and development. Ireland is currently a member of the Security Council of the UN, for the term of2001-2001 and previously served on the council in 1961 and 1981-82.
The Government attaches considerable importance to the role of the UN in the area of peacekeeping and this is reflected in theparticipation of Irish staff in a high proportion of the operations of this type. Since 1958, members of the Defense Forces and Police have served nearly 50,000 individual missions in peacekeeping operationsof the UN. Personnel currently serving in eleven missions in support of UN peacekeeping in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.

Irlanda se unió a las naciones Unidas (ONU) el14 de Diciembre de 1955. Entro de la ONU, Irlanda ha buscado promover una acción efectiva internacional en desarme, mantenimiento de la paz, derechos humanos y desarrollo. Irlanda es actualmentemiembro del Concejo de Seguridad de la ONU, por el término del 2001-2001 y sirvió previamente en este Concejo en 1961 y 1981-82.El Gobierno atribuye una considerable importancia al rol de la ONU en elárea de mantenimiento de la paz y esto se refleja en la participación de personal Irlandés en una alta proporción de las operaciones de este tipo.
