Irlanda
Although most Irish people are of Celtic descent, today Ireland is an ethnically diverse country as a result of large-scale immigration from many differentcountries throughout its history. Also, due to immigration of the Irish people themselves overseas, Irish culture has a global reach and Irish festivals such as St. Patrick's Day and Halloween[1] areobserved and celebrated all over the world.

There are many references to food and drink in early Irish literature. Honey seems to have been widely eaten and used in the makingof mead.

As archaeological evidence from sites such as the CéideFields in County Mayo and Lough Gur in County Limerick demonstrates, farming in Ireland is an activity that goes back to the very beginnings of human settlement. In historic times, texts such as the TáinBó Cúailingeshow a society in which cattle represented a primary source of wealth and status. Little of this had changed by the time of the Norman invasion of Ireland in the 12th century. GiraldusCambrensis portrayed a Gaelic society in which cattle farming and transhumance was the norm.
