ISLAMIC MARRIAGE


Nature and origin

Nikah is the Arabic Word for marriage. This word means, “Contract”. The Quran refers to it also as “mithaqum Ghalithun”. This contract is between a man and a woman
Purpose of marriage (Nikah)
Islam calls to marriage a sentimental, spiritual, economis and social relationshi between a man and a woman that have begin with an attraction to each other andhas ledd to have a common life.
Prophet Muhammad said “no institution of islam is liked by allah more than marriage”, so socially is a very important act.

The basic objectives of the marriage in Islam are 2:

- producing a generations of faithful, healthy and virtuos children

* the Quran says: He is the Creator of the heavens and the each. He has given you partners fromamong yourselves and, somilarly, made the cattle also males and females. That is how he moltiplies you. Nothing can be comared to Him , He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing” (43:11)

- to assure a good atmosphere for a husband and wife.

* The Quran says: “one of His signs is that He created for you spouses fo your own species, so that tou might find confort with them. And He putmutual love and affection in your herats. Surele in this there are lessons for the thinking people. (30:21)

A islamic marrige that follow the teachings of the Quran will always be a source of relief. Muslim men and women should recognize the mariage as one of the Divine laws. The comunity begins to form when this union is stablished. the couple should be benevolent friends and faithful associatesand arrogant in their mutual dealings, and finally respect the rights and try to please each other, but always obeyin Allah.

Importance of marriage in Islam:

Allah determinate that, marriage is a contract in which men and women were created as company for one another. They should procreate and live in peace and tranquilly according to the commandments of Allah.
In contrast with otherreligions which consider monasticism or celibacy as a great virtue and a means of salvation, Islam considers marriage as one of the most important institution. It is an act pleasing to Allah in order to make efforts to continue the human race and to create servants of Allah.
In the Islamic world according with the messenger of Allah, marriage is the way to bring families into existence and is thenucleus of Islamic society, for this reason people entering into the marriage. And is considerate as a shield against promiscuity, adultery etc.
Shari’ah determinates rules to regulate the operation of the family so that two parties involved can live in love, tranquility and security

Conditions of marriage:

The marriage should be conducted through a contract and money provided to her, themahr.
Another important condition is chastity. Marriage is permitted for a man with a chaste woman, for a woman the marriage to non-Muslim man is prohibited.
Without the woman’s consent they can’t take any decision, but the woman decision can be revoked only for his father.
The marriage should be determinate by parents.

Rights and obligations for spouses:

The man is the responsible forthe economic maintenance and well being of his wife and his children providing clothing, food, home. And the wife is the responsible to safeguard the husband’s possessions and his spend.
The husband provides physical and emotional barrier, sexual fidelity and honor. And the woman should be honorable, loyal and guard secrets of her husband.

The Islamic marriage ceremony

* Primary requirements:- Mutual agreement
- Two adults and sane witness
- Mahr
* Secondary requirements:
- Legal guardians representing the bride
- Written marriage contract
- Qadi
- Sermon to solemnize the marriage

The Islamic ceremony for marriage is known as “Al-Nikah”. The requirements and method for the ceremony are the following ones:
