Jalisco
I. Introduction
A. Today I am going to be your tourist guide. We are going to visit a very special state. A state where I grew up, Jalisco, Mexico.
B. Jalisco is a state that is located in the western part of Mexico, its name means "on the sand." Jalisco is one of the most important states in the country, for the richness and fertility of their land and for its historical importance.Jalisco is the land of churros, rodeo's, mariachi, tequila. Many of the Mexican traditions that are known worldwide have been made in Jalisco.
C. We are going to see Jalisco’s touristic attractions and its gastronomy.
D. I can assure that your visit to this wonderful state will be an unforgettable experience.

II. Some of the beautiful attractions
A. Guadalajara. The word Guadalajara comesfrom the Arabic word Wad-al-hidjara, "river that runs between rocks". It is known worldwide for its traditional hospitality, with its extensive range of cultural and recreational attractions. Also, for its variety and delicious gastronomy, but most of all for its people.
1. El Teatro Degollado
a. It was built in 1856.
b. It has a neoclassical style building. Its facade has a triangularpediment with a high relief representing Apollo and the nine muses.
c. Currently, the campus is home of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jalisco and entertainment related to theater, opera, dance, art and cultural festivals.
2. Hospicio Cabañas
a. The Hospicio Cabañas was built at the beginning of the 19th century.
b. Provided care and shelter for the disadvantaged – orphans, old people, thehandicapped and chronic invalids.
c. It is notable for the harmonious combination of open spaces and built spaces. It has 23 patios, 72 halls, 106 rooms, two chapels, and a movie theater.
d. It has important paintings by Jose Clemente Orozco, one of the greatest Mexican muralists of the period. His murals express scenes from the history of Mexico addressing the conquest, colonial and modern times.
e.For its architecture, works and historical events that occurred sheltered in place, was declared in 1997 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

3. La Catedral (the cathedral)
a. Built in 1561 in the center of the city.
b. It reflects gothic, baroque, moorish and neoclassical architectural styles.
c. The 65m- (213ft.) high yellow turrets resemble inverted Calla Lillies andare a widely recognized symbol of the city.
d. It houses one of the oldest organs in the city.
4. El Expiatorio
a. It was built in the beginning of 1897.
b. The imposing Italian neo-gothic façade is made of stone.
c. This "Expiatory Temple" is one of the most beautiful and imposing buildings in the city.
5. La Barranca de Huentitan
a. The Oblates Canyon is one of the most impressive naturalsites.
b. It contains one of the most interesting biomes in Mexico.
c. It has an area of 15,000 hectares with an approximate length of 300 km. and a depth of 600 meters.
d. There is a zone of various endemic flora and fauna species.
e. It also has a Sanctuary for the wildlife preservation that holds 40 hectares of forest that home to over 360 animal species.
6. Jalisco Stadium
a) It wasinaugurated in 1960.
b) The stadium has a capacity for 56, 713 spectators.
c) It has hosted major international events which include:
i. 1968 Olympics.
ii. Mexico 70 World Soccer.
iii. Mexico 86 World Soccer.
iv. Confederations Cup Mexico 99.
v. CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying 2004.
7. We saw some of the famous places in Guadalajara, now we are going to travel to Tequila.
B. Tequila. Itmeans “lava hill” in the Mexican-Indian language, and the agave plants in this region are grown on a dormant volcano. It is located roughly 40 miles northwest of its state capital, Guadalajara.
