JAMES FENIMORE COOPER

-James Fenimore Cooper was an American novelist; He was born in 1789 in Burlington, and raised in Cooperstown, New York.

- James was one ofthirteen children of Judge William Cooper and Elizabeth Cooper, Educated at Yale University who did not finish after being sent off, later enlisted in the Navy.

- At 21 heretired naval life to marry.
He married with Susan DeLancey , and soon was established in Cooperstown and they had seven children.
Sedentary lifestyle with his wife and fivedaughters came up to the reading of literary works and so he begins to write.

-At 30 years old suddenly began a literary career that would be highly successful.
He wrotehis first book, Precaution 1820, which received no impact, his second novel, The Spy, enjoyed great success.
Later he wrote The Pioneers, the first of five novels thatbecame very popular, and which form the Leatherstocking Tales.

The other four, The Last of the Mohicans, The Prairie, The Browser and The Deerslayer, tell of the adventuresin the forests of Natty Bumppo browser.

Cooper's most famous novel is The Last of the Mohicans (1826), Became one of The Most Widely read American novels of the 19thcentury. The book was written in New York City.

-The book shows a historic moment as were the wars between France and England for control of territories in the New World in1757.

The last of the Mohicans It was so successful that in 1992 made a film based on the book.

James Fenimore Cooper died on September 1851 at his home,
The first greatAmerican novelist, a man who incited and provoked his contemporaries to ponder social issues, had literally left his mark upon American culture & her literary development.
