One of the Royal Botanical Garden’s (CSIC-RJB) lines of research
relating to the natural classification of plants deals specifically with
theirevolutionary biology. This work takes a broad view, studying
the evolution of plant diversity from a variety of scientific standpoints. Patterns, processes and evolutionary mechanisms responsible
fora the huge diversity of plant life on our planet can be studied
by sampling natural populations, interpreting their natural history,
analysing their morphometric and micromorphological features, andapplying ecological modelling and various molecular genetics techniques. Evolutionary studies also provide the basis for understanding
plant biodiversity, species conservation, detecting traits ofeconomic
interest, selecting varieties, and the development of new technological advances which are important for business.

na de las líneas de investigación delReal Jardín Botánico (CSIC) relacionada con la clasificación natural de los
vegetales trata específicamente sobre la evolución de las
plantas. En ella se trabaja con una visión integradora, en laque el estudio de la evolución de la diversidad vegetal se lleva
a cabo desde distintas perspectivas científicas. A través del
muestreo de poblaciones naturales, la interpretación de su
historianatural, los análisis morfológicos y moleculares y la
modelización ecológica se estudian los patrones, procesos y
mecanismos evolutivos responsables de la gran diversidad de
