The current president of Uruguay is José Alberto Mujica Cordano. He was born the 20 of May in 1935 in the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo. Mujica become first thepresident of the Broad Front by defeating Finance Minister Danilo Astori that was consider by the actual president in that time Tabaré Vázquez all of this happened on December 14, 2008. TheExtraordinary Congress “Zelmar Michelini”,a party convention, proclaimed Mujica as the official candidate of the Broad Front for primary elections of 2009, and become the official president on 1 March 2010.when hi was elected president, he was looking to solve the problems in education by incresing the amount of public schools.
In the past Mujica was in a guerilla. He joined the newly formed Tupamarosmovement that was an armed political group inspired by the Cuban revolution in 1960. Mujica was captured by the authorities on four occasions, and being shot by the police six times. He got in prison for14 years. Mujica was free under an amnesty law that covered political and related military crimes committed since 1962, and this was the beginning for his returning in politics. On March 1, 2005,President Tabaré Vázquez designated Mujica as the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Mujica resigned his position as senator. He held this position until a cabinet change in 2008, when heresigned and was replaced by Ernesto Agazzi. Mujica then returned to his seat in the Senate.
My conclucion is that Jose Mujica was a guerilla leader that got in prison for 14 years, and bacuase of alaw of amnesty he was free. Then, he become the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, and he was part of the senate. After this, he become the candidate of the Broad Front and become theactual president of Uruguay in March 2010.
My personal opinion about this president is that he had some ideas about socialism, like a Che Guevara did, but José Mujica has new ideas about it. And I...
