1) What is (are) the main question(s) being addressed by the researchers? Why have the authors conducted the research? The researchers wanted to know if eye movementdesensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) was an effective treatment for specific phobias.

2) What do we know about this topic so far?
All research collected thus far has been inconclusive; someresearch has shown that it has an effect on phobias while others show no difference between EMDR and other methods of treatment.

Twenty- six children with a fear of spiders in the first treatment were split into three groups: one group was exposed to spiders, another received theeye movement desensitization reprocessing treatment and the control group was exposed by computer. Each group was exposed for two and half hours. In the second treatment all groups were exposed tospiders for an hour and a half. The children were given three different tests to measure the success of each treatment: a spider phobia questionnaire, a behavioral avoidance test, and self- assessmentwhere they rated the effectiveness of their treatment. The children were given the first two tests prior to receiving any treatment and all three after their first and second treatment.

4) Was thehypothesis accepted? Did they get a significant effect? Explain in English, and don’t write down anything you don’t understand.

5) What are the major conclusions the authors draw from the data? What do these Results mean? You’ll find this in the Discussion section.
The authorconcluded that the experiment was further evidence that exposed is the best treatment for specific phobias. They also concluded that EMDR was only effective when it came to self reporting but did not treat...
