Abstract
This research paper is about John Paul II and the things he did to become a pope. First, to be a pope youhave to be a priest. Then you become an archbishop. The next step is to get into the College of Cardinals. Finally, the last step is to wait until the other pope dies and you get elected. To John Paul II it was not a problem to become a pope because he was a very loved and intelligent man. During the World War II, when the Nazis attacked Poland, he became a priest to spread the word of God andpeace. He became pope in 1978 and he made history by becoming the first non-Italian pope in four hundred years. His pontificate was one of the longest in the history of the Church, lasting nearly 27 years. Finally, after six years of waiting, Benedict XVI approved his miracle and now Pope John Paul II is declared “blessed”.

Introduction
To become a pope is not easy, and to be a good oneis more difficult. To become a pope first you have to be a priest. Meanwhile you should study; a good studied priest will have no problem to become a bishop. Then you become an archbishop, they are anointed by the pope. The next step is to get into the College of Cardinals, that step is not easy because there are only 166 cardinals worldwide. After the current pope is declared officially dead, theCollege of Cardinals votes for one of its own to succeed him. The vote is by secret ballot, with some Cardinals eligible for consultation but not voting. Unsuccessful ballots are burned with a substance so they burn black, and upon election, another substance is used so they burn white, and these smoke signals are the only way the world finds out the results of the election. The new pontiff mustbe elected by a 2/3 majority of all ballots cast.
Karol Józef Wojtyła went through that process and became Pope John Paul II, some people say he is one of the best pope’s ever. He made history in 1978 by becoming the first non-Italian pope in more than four hundred years. He traveled the world, visiting more than 100 countries to spread his message of faith and peace.
People like him deserveto be saints, but to be a saint you have to pass through a process of canonization. Catholics believe that both types of saints (canonized and acclaimed) are already in Heaven, which is why one of the requirements for the canonization process is proof of miracles performed by the possible saint after his death. Canonized saints can be venerated anywhere and prayed to publicly, and their lives areheld up to Christians still struggling here on earth as examples to be imitated. But the question is, do you think that John Paul II is a saint?
