Good evening! My name is Juan Ponce De Leon. I was born in the town of Santerasde Campos in 1460. I was an explorer a many, many, many years ago. Sorry if I look attractive but I love my wife, her name is Leonor Ponce De Leon. Wed seven years old my parents send me to live wedPedro Núñez De Guzmán who was an important Spanish nobleman. I served as his page. A page's duties were to take care of his master's clothing, help him to dress, and serve his food. In exchange, Ilearned to read and write, ride a horse, hunts, and fight with a sword.
I become Núñez de Guzmán's squire at the age of fifteen. My functions there are cleaned and cared for his master's armor andweapons, and fought beside him in battle. In the late 1480's, I was a knight. I enjoy the military campaign to drive the Moors out of Spain. The Moors were people from northern Africa who spoke Arabic andpracticed Islam.
I sailed to the Americas on Christopher Columbus' Second Voyage in 1493. Europeans go through Santo Domingo and they sought to enrich and leave, I wanted something more than that,and decided to stay. On 1509 the Hispaniola Governor Nicolás de Ovando sent me to look gold to San Juan Bautista. I found the gold and created a foundry for processing and refining gold. I know I’mtoo intelligent.
On August 8, 1508, I am founded the town of Caparra near a large, beautiful bay on the north coast. I give the name of Puerto Rico to the bay and the people began calling the islandPuerto Rico instead of San Juan Bautista. In 1509, King Ferdinand of Spain I was appointed the first governor of Puerto Rico. In 1511, Diego Columbus replaced me as governor of Puerto Rico. In sometime I heard stories about a beautiful island called Bimini, located to the north of Cuba.
