Curtis James Jackson (born July 6, 1975 in South Jamaica, Queens, New York), known professionally as 50 Cent, is an African American rapper. Also known by the nicknames fiftiCent, rose to fame with the massive commercial success of his albums Get Rich or Die Tryin 'and The Massacre, both multi-platinum and selling over 16 million copies worldwide. Jackson is known for hisgangsta image and to have received nine shots and stay alive.

Curtis grew up in a neighborhood known as South Jamaica, located in Queens, New York. Under poverty, his mother was murdered in her homebecause of drug problems, so the rapper had to be cared for by their grandparents. The young man soon became a gangster and was known in his neighborhood by the nickname of "Young Caesar" and as aboy carrying dangerous weapons and a lot of cash to the institute, which cast him countless times. This reputation helped 50 Cent to be well known in New York before recording a disk with a largerlabel.

Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC discovered his talent and signed him to his label for a short time. After leaving Jay, rapper started working with producers of Hip-Hop Track Masters. When signed byColumbia Records, 50 Cent's career was launched after the recording of the controversial but successful single "How to Rob". In this song criticizing many rappers and the industry of Hip-Hop. The nextsingle, "Ghetto Qu'ran", led to a dispute with Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, the leader of a drug-related group (exactly with cocaine and crack) known as the Supreme Team. The song talks about the drugtrade, and appoints many business people of this illegal practice. Their debut album, "The Power Of The Dollar" was postponed due to the controversies surrounding Curtis, and numerous feuds with rapperswho joined with McGriff.
