STEP 1:
Go online to intuit.com and download the free copy of QuickBooks Simple Start
At top of screen input Simple Start and hit enter
Click onQuickBooks Simple Start Free Starter Edition
Click on Download Now
STEP 2:
Under File at top of screen, select New Company and follow the Set Up Interview - Click Next
Enter Local Nameand Address - Click Next
Select Non-Profit Organization - Click Next three (3) times
Company file will be created
Click Next when prompted by the screen
Set up User ID, Password andemail address
Don’t forget to Register Quick Books Simple Start and print out registration information.
Do not select online activity as there will be a fee charged.
STEP 3:
Under File attop of screen, Click on Company Information
Enter Your Local Name & Number and Your Local Address
Enter the First Month in your Fiscal Year (usually January)
Enter the First Month in your TaxYear (usually January)
Income Tax Form Used - Form 990 (Exempt Organization)
Click OK
STEP 4;
Print out current Chart of Accounts
Select Company at top of screen
Select ListsSelect Chart of Accounts
Select File at top of screen
Select Print Account List
Have printed Chart of Accounts in front of you for modification
STEP 5:
Add Current Bank AccountsSelect Company at top of screen
Click on Lists
Click on Chart of Accounts
Click on Edit at top of screen
Click on New Account
Choose Bank from list
Click Continue
Type in Bank AccountName: AFSCME Local 9999 Checking Acct.
(You type in your bank account name)
Enter Bank Account #: 12345678 (you type in your bank account number)
Enter Opening Balance at 12/31/08 of$15,000
(You enter your opening balance and the date)
Repeat above steps to enter CD
Click on New Account
Choose Bank from list
Click Continue
Type in Bank Account Name: AFSCME...
