How WikiLeaks Matters
This article goes further than the typical vision that people have about WikiLeaks; it goes beyond morality and insome cases national security, (which is obviously something very important for the country.) The article starts by making a comparison between India and WikiLeaks, explaining that the most importantthing in an economic institution is GDP (Gross domestic product), because India will be the first country that will include environmental costs of his GDP and India is also proposing that the rest ofcountries adopt this attitude about environmental costs.
When you try to reflect environmental costs, you must incorporate all type of documents like income statements. It is a fact that theinformational basis of the economy will change, and the investors and customers will have better and more detailed information to share. So From an Economic perspective, WikiLeaks is very similar to India’sproposal, because it is about sharing better and more detailed information with the world. The article makes a comparison using old institutions at the moment of sharing information, because thosereports were done annually and quarterly, so why entities don’t supply our demand for more and accurate information so we can analyze and synthesize the most important.
The article relies on thisquestion: “Why can’t we have continuously updated earning releases – that let us see what companies are earning in real time?” The article explains that of course there must be some sort of equilibriumbetween what companies should keep private and what should they share with the public; for example, a CEO can make tons of money thanks to the company he is running, but we don’t know if the salary he isearning could be overrated and the company could be facing some sort of crisis because of that.
