Chapter 15 and 16 Vocabulary
1. Acquaintance: a kind of friend
“ I began to sense the futility one feels when unacknowledged by a chance acquaintaince.” Page 205
Acquaintance (dictionary):One's slight knowledge of or friendship with someone
She was just an acquaintance of mine. I had met her briefly while learning how to drive but all I knew was her name. We weren’t very closeas friends.

2. Morbid: horrible
“’t’s morbid, watching a poor devil on trial for his life.” Page 213
Morbid(dictionary): Characterized by or appealing to an abnormal and unhealthy interestin disturbing and unpleasant subjects, esp. death and disease.
When I walk past the cemetery I get a morbid feeling. Its not just the fact that there are corpses beneath my feet, it is the factthat they were once like me. Young and bursting with life, and yet the lay below empty and dead.

3. Elucidate: explain
“We asked Miss Maudie to elucidate:” page 213
Elucidate(dictionary): Make (something) clear; explain
I am usually very clear in the manner I speak. However, occasionally I speak too fast and my friends ask me to elucidate myself. Sometimes explaining so manytimes is tiring.

4. Hideous: ugly
“The Maycomb jail was the most venerable and hideous of the county’s buildings.” Page 200
Hideous (dictionary): Ugly or disgusting to look at.
Mr.Schmitt made us look at the dead disfigured body of Emmet Till. It was hideous to say the least. That face will stay in my memory for a long time.
5. Oblivious: not noticing
“He was sitting inone of his office chairs, and he was reading, oblivious of the nightbugs dancing over his head.” Page 201
Oblivious(dictionary): Not aware of or not concerned about what is happening around one.I was once sleeping very deeply when a replica occurred. It was a 6,5 one yet I didn’t even stir as I was oblivious to what was happening. I was very confused when I talked to my family later.
