La Logia
There are many who are opposed to legalization, and they have good reasons for that. For example, they say the government's current strategy in the fight against trafficking has been effective in causing drug prices to rise in the streets. This is true, but just because thedealers need to be rewarded for their risk to be sentenced to severe penalties. So while it is true that high prices have reduced demand, the reality is that most popular hard drugs arestill in the streets.
One of the main advantages of legalizing hard drugs is the elimination of the violence that brings illegal trafficking. In the U.S. many neighborhoods have beendestroyed by fighting between gangs in order to gain the sales control in the territory.
The fact that the fight against drugs has increased the price of the streets is also one ofthe reasons for the trafficking going on. The big profits make that producers stay motivated to continue their work and pay for new drugs production.
It is clear that legalizingdrugs is an unknown territory, so it should be done with cautious steps. But so far, the problems of drugs and violence continue rising and no one has given a better alternative.
