Millonarios is a team of Bogota city the capital of Colombia, Millonarios play in the principal league. (The professional league of Football of Colombia now days the name is Liga Postobon) In this league are 16 professional clubs of football, butthe team that have more stars (Titles or Championships) is Millonarios, also is the team that have the most loyal fans that never fail to encourage the team. To know why Millonarios is the best football team in all Colombian history that are need to take in to account 3 very important aspects, the first one is how many titles Millonarios have,( National And International) the second aspect is toknow what important players have come to play in Millonarios and the last one but more important What was the age of “el dorado” in Millonarios.
Millonarios is the Colombian team with more championships in all the history of the country. Millonarios have acquired 13 titles nationally and also Millonarios have won the Merco Norte (International tournament) 5 times the last one in 2001. To knowthe importance of the 13 tournaments we need to take in account that when Millonarios won’t the tournaments lasted an entire year, but now since 1990 last six months and there are two champions each year. Millonarios won the 13 tournament these years: 1949, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1972, 1978, 1987, 1988 and was sub champion 9 times. (1950, 1956, 1958, 1967, 1973, 1975 1984, 1994,1996) an aspect that need to be taken into account to end this issue is that in 1989 when Millonarios was first in the tournament, this was and the Championship was fit from the hand of the team and the Fans.
Millonarios has had very important player during all the history of the team. The five more important players that have passed in Millonarios are “El Pibe”( For many people the best playerof all Colombian history) Arnoldo Iguaran ( a Colombian player that make 25 goals in the Colombia team, and 120 with Millonarios) Willington Ortiz, Alfredo Castillo ( an Argentine that have the record of goals of Millonarios that have 133 goals) and last but more important Alfredo Di Stefano. Why is so important Alfredo Di Stefano in all the history of Colombian Football? The answer is simple isthe best player that had use a shirt of a Colombian team, he only use the shirt of Millonarios in Colombian football. To say that is the best player in all Colombian history we need to look that FIFA take out a magazine that only get outs each 10 years the raking of the players last magazine says like these: 1.Pele 2.Maradona 3.Garrincha 4.Alfredo di Stefano.
But the most important aspectthat is needed to take into account is the age “El dorado”. This age is wonderful is between 1952 to 1964 and is so important because is in this time Millonarios were the best team in the entire world. Millonarios in this age were invited to a championship call “torneo de sus Bodas de Oro”( A tournament in Madrid Because Real Madrid was in 50 anniversary)and were invited for been considered themost representative team in the American continent of the age. He moved in mid March 1952 to Europe, the only Colombian team to tour the continent. They drew 0-0 against Valencia lost 3-2 against UD Las Palmas, the only game that they were defeated and tied 1-1 against Sevilla. In the two triangular tournament games the Golden Jubilee, Millionaires defeated IFK Norrköping, Sweden champion 2-1, andthen the March 30, 1952 to Real Madrid, with two goals of Alfredo Di Stefano and the other two Antonio Baez and Alfredo Castillo, and was crowned champion of the international friendly tournament which took place at the Estadio Nuevo Chamartin (now called Santiago Bernabéu).
