The Spanish Civil War

It seems that almost all the greatest wars have begun with just one shoot, with just one decision or with a wrong political explanation. To start explaining the Spanish CivilWar reasons, first, we have to know the background:
In the 1920’s, Spain had a constitutional monarchy, the king was Alfonso XIII. The government was so corrupt and inefficient that the king askedto the general Primo de Rivera to take Spain’s government control. He stayed as a dictator until 1930’s, when the Great Depression came over.
However, the Great Depression hit Spain really hard,there was no job and Rivera didn´t know how to solve financial problems. Also, two regions asked for independence from Spain, Catalonia and the Basque Region, their requests were successful and theyfinally separate. The Catholic Church was hostile to the republic and the privileges of the Catholic Church were attacked: priests were no longer paid by the state; the Catholic Church will have to paytheir wages and them couldn´t take place anymore into the state and political situations. In 1930’s Spain was an agricultural country and the depression hit the prices of crops, which meant,unemployment grew up and wages went down. In the political environment, there were constant disturbs between the left and the right.
It was hard to the government to maintain the public order, and thepolitical violence was an everyday situation. Everything started with the murder of José Castillo, a left lieutenant, the reaction causes the murder of José Calvo Sotelo, a leader of the right party.
At theend of the war, there were more than a half of millions of dead people, hundreds and hundreds of exiles, which moves some of the vanquished population to Mexico and Argentina.
