La Vida De Nelson Mandela
College Writing
Topic Proposal
Nelson Mandela was a person that was against the division of society due to the different races. For him everybody was the same but the place helived in, South Africa, was a place dominated unfairly by the white people for a long time. Mandela is very similar to Martin Luther King in the aspect that they both battled against racism and the lackof freedom.
Mandela, without a doubt, has been one of the most influential persons of all times. He was the first democratically elected president of South Africa and he used his power to make achange. The changes that he made were so choking and huge that anything that he did was top world news and he was seen as a symbol of peace and prosperity.
I believe this subject is worth researchingabout because I think of him as a combination of all the people that has tried to make a change in the world. As I said before his mission was similar to Luther King’s and the way of accomplishing hismission had some of Gandhi’s non-violence policy. As you may know most of South Africa’s population is black and there existed many movements against white people. Mandela was not in favor of any ofthose movements it was totally the opposite, he thought that we were intelligent enough to solve our problems through harmless ways. Going against the black people must be something very difficult to dobecause they may had think of him as a traitor or something similar, but he did not gave up.
Mandela’s perseverance and faith on his people is what makes him a different person, it’s what makes himsomeone worthy to write about. If you compare him to other presidents, not only of Africa, whose governments are full of corruption and war Mandela did not had or support any of this. The fact that hewas the first elected president is also important since the people knew what his plans was and the majority trusted him to complete it.
