“Life is beautiful”

“Life Is Beautiful” is a 1997 Italian film which tells the story of a Jewish Italian, Guido, who must employ hisfertile imagination to help his family during their internment in a Nazi concentration camp.

This film appears actually as a movie with twoparts. The first half deals with the relationship in 1939 of a waiter called Guido (Roberto Benigni) and a schoolteacher, Dora (Nicoletta Braschi)whom he falls in love with at first sight. The events that follow are a fairy-tale relationship of humorous antics in which they become husband andwife and have a son Giosué. The second part of the tale fast forwards several years later, in which Guido and his family are sent to aconcentration camp. Guido must convince his son, Giosué, that the trip and camp are all part of an elaborated game in honour of his birthday. If Giosué isgood and follows all the "rules" his father told him, they will win a real tank.

The real story of this film is about the great efforts a fatherdoes to protect his family from the horrors of the Nazi war machine. Part of the film came from Benigni's own family history; before his birthRoberto's father had survived three years of internment at the Nazi’s concentration camp

The film “Life is beautiful” manages to be chilling, tense, yet also hilarious. Its characters are believable. This film delivers a powerful message that despite everything life is truly beautiful.
