BIOGRAPHY OF MANA

The story of "MANA" begins in the mid-seventies in Guadalajara,Mexico, thanks to four friends coming together to perform songs from Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. These friends formed a group called 'The Green Hat Spies', which eventually became "Green Hat" and finally, in "Green Hat" and its translation into Castilian.

With the name 'Green Hat' releasedtwo albums: 'Green Hat' and 'To the rhythm of rock', with rather poor results in terms of sales.

In 1985, due to the failure of his previous work, the group made several changes, keeping the creative base in the band: FernandoOlvera (vocals), Juan Diego Calleros (bass) and his brotherUlysses (guitar), add to the band also the percussionist, AlejandroGonzalez, the Cuban-Colombian roots. Sincethen, decided to change his stage name for that of 'Mana' and use Latin rhythms in his compositions

In 1987, released their first album, entitled "'Mana', with modest results.

In 1989, they released their second album, "Missing Love", which was not an immediate success. It was not until two years whenMana would be released across the country, with over seventy concerts, numerous awards andgold records for his work. Thisalbum highlights the themes of "Bordering the Sun", "Lost in aBoat," "seeks" and "Out."

In 1992, he released the album "Where children play?" Recorded in a studio in Los Angeles. Calleros Ulysses becomes themanager of the group and enter César López (Vampire) and IvanGonzalez. The album became a bestseller, not only in Mexico but also in Chile, Ecuador, Peru,Bolivia, Venezuela and Argentina."Where children play?" alone was placed in the top 50 albums on the Billboard Latin for more than 97 weeks. During this time, thevideo for "Vivir sin Aire" won an MTV award for best video of the year. Other awards followed, such as the Billboard album and bestpop rock band.

In late 1993, Vampire and Ivan leave the group. Despite this, the trio, consisting of Fher,Alex and John, released a double livealbum "Live Maná" (1994). The album was recorded during his successful tour that took place on two continents, for overseventeen countries, with a total of 178 performances. Once again, Billboard magazine awarded the band for Best Rock Album in Pop Live

To complete the original lineup of four members elected a newguitarist. After 80 applicants from Mexico,Argentina, Chile and the United States offered auditions, he was given the opportunity for aguitarist Sergio Vallin Mexican named.

After selection, the band began a long period of trials, andperformed new arrangements that culminated in his next releasetitled "When the Angels Cry" (1995). This work was publishedsimultaneously in 21 countries and quickly became worthy of gold and platinum in some ofthem. Furthermore, this album gave theband their first Grammy nomination.

MANA has maintained a conscious interest in the problems with respect to the planet's ecosystems. In September 1995, the bandhe founded an organization called the Black Forest, to raise awareness of the problems it poses to the planet's ecology. In addition to awareness, the organization has also been actively involvedin programs designed to reforest woodlands.

A major feature of Modern Drummer (March 1997 number) included in a segment MANA drummer Alex Gonzalez. In thisissue, the magazine highlighted the story of Mana and appointedAlex as one of the best drummers in pop-rock current worldwide.

The recording, entitled "Liquid Dreams" was taken to the airOctober 1997. Appearing simultaneously in 26countries, the expected launch began gaining incredible momentum. Just in the United States, the album debuted at number 67 of the Billboardtop 200 at the top of the list of Top 50 Billboard Hot Latin of, and within 10 days since its launch on October 10, the album sold over 300,000 copies.
