Independence of Guayaquil
The city of Guayaquil was an important port which had a garrison of 1,500 men who were mostly natives of the province with several officers whowere sympathetic to the cause of independence awaiting the precise moment to express these affinities.
On 8 October 1820 the conspirators decided to take action so that on the morning of October9 Febres Cordero Captain takes the barracks without meeting any resistance Grenadiers something similar happens in other quarters of the city where almost no there was opposition, not in thebattalion "Daule" where the commander Joaquin Magallar faced Captain Luis de Urdaneta and had to be killed along with eight other soldiers who supported their action.
Magallar commander's death was theonly one given in the capture of the city, and on the morning of October 9, 1820 is organizing a War Council headed by Luis de Urdaneta, was appointed as Chief Political Olmedo and LieutenantGregorio Escobedo as military commander.
Finally on November 8 Members of the province of Guayaquil meet and form the final Governing Board, composed of Jose Joaquin de Olmedo as president, Rafael andFrancisco Roca Jimena as Secretary of Board Members and Francisco Marcos.
Immediately the new Governing Board presented to the deputies of the province a draft constitution known as "ProvisionalRegulations" which was accepted and adopted on 11 November 1820. When these proceedings, the Board proceeded to inform Revolution commissioners Guayaquil Bolivar, San Martin and the emissaries ofAdmiral Cochrane, thus confirming the independence of the province of Guayaquil.
