Conditional Sentences
Conditional sentences consist of two clauses, the IF-Clause and the main clause. When theIF-Clause comes before the main clause, they are separated by a comma.
Examples: If you get this CD, you’ll get another one for free.

1. Zero Conditional
It expresses general truths.
IF - CLAUSE If + simple present If you mix blue and yellow,
MAIN CLAUSE Simple presentyou get green.
Note: In zero conditional we can use when instead of if.
Ex: When you mix blue and yellow, you get green.

2. Conditional Sentences Type 1
We use conditional sentences type 1 to express something that is possible to happen in thepresent or future.
IF - CLAUSE If + simple present If you go to Paris,
MAIN CLAUSE + Future WILL you’ll have a great time. + Modal Verbs (may, might, can, must, should) you can climb to the top ofthe Eiffel Tower. + imperative bring me a souvenir.
3. Conditional Sentences Type 2
We use conditional sentences type 2 to express unreal or imaginary situations, or for situations which areunlikely to happen in the present or future.
IF - CLAUSE If + simple past If I had the time, If they lived in the country,
MAIN CLAUSE + would / could + bare infinitive I would exercise more. theycould buy a horse.

Note:
1. In conditional sentencestype 2, WERE is often used instead of WAS in the if-clause.
Ex: If I were older, I would drive my dad’s car.
2. We use IF I WERE YOU, to express an opinion or to give advice.
