The tallest buildings in the world
Introduction
Since the beginning of the human society, people all over the worldhad looked into the sky, and always try to go higher, as proves are the pyramids in Egypt, the cathedrals in Rome, and so on.
But currently, thanks to new materials and new construction models thehumanity has been capable of building structures at never imagined highs. And also thanks to the need of space generated by the global overpopulation, engineers and architect always are trying to getbetter in the building process.
This inform contains some of the most emblematic skyscrapers in the world.
Empire State
The Empire State Building is a 102-story skyscraper located in MidtownManhattan, New York City, at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It has a roof height of 1,250 feet (381 meters), and with its antenna spire included, it stands a total of 1,454 ft(443.2 m) high.
It was the tallest building for 40 years, since 1931, until 1972, when it was beaten by the World Trade Center.
It construction started on January 22, 1930, and it was finished only410 days after. On May 1st, 1931 was officially open.
Currently still one of the tallest buildings in the world, but it can´t compete with the new tallest skyscraper.
World Trade Center 1 and 2The World Trade Center 1 and 2 were the tallest buildings in the world since their opening on 1972 and 1973 respectively, until only a few months later when the Willis Tower in Chicago.
Their highwas 417 meters, until September 11, 2001, when, on a terrorist attack they were destroyed.
Currently a new skyscraper is being build called the One World Trade Center that will be opened late 2013.However, the World Trade Center 1 and 2 will never be forgotten, due to the tragedy suffered on that fateful day of September 11.
