LAS VEGAS:
We will talk about "Las Vegas". First we will explain a bit about “Las Vegas”, and then some thematic hotels of "Las Vegas".
Vocabulary:
Theme: A theme is the main idea, or message, ofan essay, paragraph, or a book. The message may be about life, society, or human nature.
Entertainment: Entertainment consists of any activity which provides a diversion or permits people to amusethemselves in their spair time. Entertainment is generally passive.
Inaugurate: to have a ceremony to celebrate an important person starting a new job, a new building opening, etc.
Episode: oneprogramme of a series shown on television.
Replica: something that is made to look almost exactly the same as something else.
Introduction:
Las Vegas is situated in Nevada, USA. The city has lots ofdifferent names: The Entertainment Capital of the World, Sin City, Capital of Second Chances and The Marriage Capital of the World.
Thematic hotels:
- The Venetian is both a hotel and a casino. It isthe biggest hotel.It has Five American Stars. The theme is based around the city of Venice. In 1997 they started building it, and in 1999 they inaugurated it. It has approximately 7000 rooms.
"Theconstruction on the Venetian", an episode on Spanish Discovery was filmed in the hotel. Different scenes of Rate Race were also filmed in the hotel. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous was filmedin the hotel to.
The hotel has got a shopping center called Grand Canal Shoppes. There is a canal that passes through the hotel, and you can travel by gondola. There is a museum of wax called MadameTussaud.
- Paris is also a hotel and a casino. The theme tries to imitate the capital of France, Paris. In 1997 they started to build it, the same day as the Venetian, and in 1999 they inauguratedit, just after the Venetian hotel. It has around 3000 rooms.
