AMOXICILLIN
* Origin: Amoxicillin is one of the semisynthetic penicillins discovered by Beecham scientists. Amoxicillin was first tested in 1987.

* Concept: Amoxicillin  is amoderate-spectrum, bacteriolytic, β-lactam antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is usually the drug of choice within the class because it is betterabsorbed, following oral administration, than other β-lactam antibiotics. Amoxicillin is one of the most common antibiotics prescribed for children.

* Medical Uses: Is often used as first choice ininfections of varying severity in both human medicine and also in veterinary medicine. Amoxicillin is used in the treatment of a number of infections for example: acute otitis media, streptococcalpharyngitis, pneumonia, skin infections, urinary tract infections, salmonella, lyme disease. It is used to prevent bacterial endocarditis in high risk people who are having dental work done, toprevent strep pneumococus infections in those without a spleen, and for both the prevention and the treatment of anthrax. It is also a treatment for cystic acne.

* Dose:
Adults, adolescents and childrenover 40 kg: The recommended dose is 500 mg every 8 hours or 250 mg every 4 hours. In the case of severe infections caused by germs or less susceptible, dosages may be 500 mg every 4 hours.
Infants andchildren under 40 kg: For mild infections, the recommended dose is 20 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 8 hours or 25 mg / kg / day dose every 12 hours. These doses can be increased to 40 mg / kg/ day in three administrations or 45 mg / kg / day in two administrations.
Neonates and infants <3 months old: The maximum recommended dose is 30 mg / kg / day in two doses.
