The Cuban Revolution

The Cuban Revolution is the term which designates the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista by the July 26 Movement and the establishment of the new Cuban government led by Fidel Castro at the beginning of 1959. The revolution began with the assault on the Moncada Barracks in the July 26, 1953 and ends on January 1, 1959,when Batista fled the country, and the cities of Santa Clara and Santiago de Cuba were seized by the rebels, led by Che Guevara and Fidel Castro, respectively. The term "Cuban Revolution" is also used to refererise the period from 1959 to the present and the adoption of the principles of Marxism, Leninism and Marti for the Cuban government.
