The objective of this report is to introduce our classmates the topic “trait approach” and its relationship to leadership.

First of all we need to understand the words “trait” and “leader”.Trait are the characteristics that define a person character, the way they act, think, feel etc.
A leader is a person who guides others toward a common goal, showing the way by example not just words,and creating an environment in which every team members feel involved in the entire process. A leader is not just in a big company, a leader can be in our classrooms, families, or society.

Afterthis two definitions we found that trait approach includes the characteristics of being a leader, Some of those ideas distinguish leadership from management. Theories of personality, such aspsychoanalytic or humanistic explain that leadership trait theory is the idea that people are born with certain character traits. Since certain traits are associated with leadership.

How is trait approachrelated to leadership?
The trait approach was one of the first systematic attempts to study leadership. (Zaccarro et al., 2004, p.103)
“The trait approach focuses on the leader and not on thefollowers or the situation. This approach is concerned with what traits leaders exhibit and who has these traits. It assumes that it is the leader and his/her personality that are central to the leadershipprocess. For organizations it means that selecting the right people will increase organizational effectiveness. The managers can also analyze their own traits and understand their strengths andweaknesses and how others see them in organization (Northouse, 2007, p.23-24).”
Its suppoused that some people have some special qualities that make them good leaders.

For example, the book TheLeadership Challenge identifies 20 traits that are associated with good leaders. The top five are:
