Learning English is not so easy
Is English one of the easiest languages to learn? I will say “yes”, but I will be wrong. Many people who have learned English as second language say that learningEnglish is simple. They might say that English is not nearly as complicated or difficult as Chinese, Arabic or Czech. Well, all these people, like me, are wrong. In order to continue, a distinction isnecessary: to know the basis of a language is not to have completely learned it. To learn a language means to know grammatical rules, to pronounce words correctly, to use verb constructions properly,etc. So, once again, is English one of the easiest languages to learn? No, learning English is not so easy.
First of all, English grammar can be more complicated than it appears to be. English tensesdo not have many conjugations such other languages, like Italian, Spanish or German. Nevertheless, English grammatical rules can be very tricky. There is an exception for almost everything; a singularsentence might have two or more absolutely different explanation; the meaning of a word can vary from one concept to another depending on context, punctuation, which word precedes it or follows it,etc - and all these without mentioning passive voice or subordinated clauses! Therefore, when beginning, learning English grammar can seem anything but complicated but when we go on and on through it,we are going to realize that it is not a child’s play.
Secondly, to acquire a correct pronunciation is highly demanding. Making an exception to German speakers, almost all non-English-native peoplehave complications when pronouncing English words. For example, French people have a tendency to omit the initial /h/ sound or to pronounce a /z/ sound instead of the /ð/ sound – as in “they”, them”,“that”, etc. To say more, Spanish-native speaker find extremely challenging to imitate the correct pronunciation of English vowels.
