Heart attack

Almost 1million Americans have heart attacks every year. In fact it is estimated that about every 34 seconds, somebody in the United States has a heart attack.

What causes a heartattack?

Also called a myocardial infraction (MI) or an acute myocardial infraction (AMI). Many heart attacks are caused by a complete blockage of a vessel in your heart, called a coronary artery. Ablocked coronary artery prevents oxygen-rich blood and nutrients form reaching a action of the heart. If blood cannot reach the heart muscle, it. Will die.

Hearts attacks may be caused by:
• afatty buildup called plaque, wich severely narrows or blocks a coronary artery.
• a blood clot, wich can block an artery already narrowed by plaque
•a clot that forms at the site of "soft" plaque onthe inside o the artery because the plaque can crack and bleed.
•A condition called coronary artery spam, wich involves a coronary artery going into spam and narrowing.

Heart attacks are divided in2 types, by their severity. The more severe type of heart attack is called an ST-segment-elevation myocardial infraction, or STEMI
Doctors can tell if you are having a STEMI because of thecharacteristic changes. One of those changes is an elevation in the St seament.

A non SR segment elevation myocardial infraction, or NSTEMI, means that the coronary artery is only partly blocked, so onlypart if the heart muscle being supplied by the affected artery may be damaged.

What are the symptoms?

It's onset with sudden, powerful chest pain that their patients often say feels like acrushing or squeezing sensation or a very heavy weight on their chest. The pain may move to the arm, jaw, shoulder, back, or neck. Othe symptoms may include an unexplained shortness of breath ,lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting, sweating or a sick stomach.
Heart attacks in women may be different from those experienced by men. Women tend to feel lightheadedness, an upset stomach and sweating.
