2. THE GOODBYE.

Goodbyes are never easy.
Not to your loved ones, anyway. Allie, her parents, Mario – my butler, and Lumer, are standing outside of thehouse, already waiting for my leaving. My heart drops in my stomach, and I’m forced to hold back tears that threaten to spill at any precise second.
“Hey youguys,” I say, my tone thinning out more with every word. “What are you doing here?”
They all look unbelievably sad and heartbroken, but at the same time, they seemproud. As if I going to Vesria actually affected them the same way it’s affecting me. That’s silly thinking, though. They just have to sit down and watch, theydon’t actually have to make way through all the minds that are going to be thinking why you’re not good enough.
“Vera,” says Luna, Allie’s mom. Her tone seemsdefenseless, and – almost – desperate. “I just want you to know that we’re always going to be here for you. You’re practically Allie’s sister, and that makesyou my daughter.” She tugs on my hand and pulls me in, which catches me a little by surprise, yet gives me a feeling that I haven’t experienced in a while. Love.Motherly affection. I return the hug, smiling and shedding a tear from the corner of my eye. Allie’s father, Charles, doesn’t say a word, simply leans down andkisses my forehead and gives me a hug.
Mario, my lifelong butler, seems happy. Triumphant, even. In a second, he pulls me in, and mutters in my ear, “As long asyou never lose yourself, you will never be lost.”
Allie’s next, she doesn’t even hesitate and wrapping her arms around me and hiding her face on my shoulder.
