Are some parts of this city more dangerous than others?

Rio grande has always been a peacefull place to live in, free from danger and crime. Yet, nowadays this has changed. Today, there are certain neighbourhoods and zoneswhich are concider extremely dangerous. This may be due to the poverty combined with the high cost of living in this city. Crime has rise in the poorest zones, togetherwith violence and drug trafiking.


1. Do you believe that public execution would deter crime?

Public executions had been practised in the past by most societies, but many countries have abolished it. One may think that it is a good tool for stoping criminals to offend again, and that it is a just penalty for atrocious crimes. However, it may encourage violence, and it certainlyviolates human rights. We should not resolve matters like murderers, and also think how it would affect the next generations. It would be horrible to go back to ancient times.

2. Do you think abortion is a crime?

The right to live and the right to choose are very strong issues. Abortion is the termination of a life, but this important decition carries several and different reasons, and ithas always been a difficult matter of discution.
We can think that a life begins at the moment of conception, for instance, abortion at any time of the pregnancy should be concidered murder. Whether the baby is inside or outside of the womb it is still concider a human being by many people. Moreover, there are too many ways to avoid an unwanted pregnancy these days, and if it could not bestopped, adoption is always the best choise, a difficult one, but there are so many people out there who cannot conceive. Yet, young woman and teenagers, choose abortion as a way to escape responsability, which is highly immature, a waste of resources and extremely unjust to the baby. However, what about rape?. What happens when a ten-year-old gets pregnant due to rape or incest?. Well then, thematter changes.
Abortion is actually legal in some countries, and so, not concidered a crime. This legalization is supported by many reasons. A very important one is when a young girl's life it's in danger due to the pregnancy. In those cases, abortion is even allowed in counties where it is illegal. Nowadays woman and young teenagers are having children they cannot afford to take care, andthose unwanted children born under a dangerous enviorement and raised unproperly, are more likely to become criminals and drugaddicts.
It is very difficult to get a yes or no question to this. There are just too many exceptions, and too many non-exceptions. It is true that a fetus is a human being with a right to live, but lets not forget that a woman has reproductive rights, especially thechoice whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term.





3. Do you think people who use illegal drug should be put in jail ?

It is difficult to think that drugadiction is a crime. It is a problem that nowadays many people, even young boys and girls, have to face due to the dangerous enviorement in which they live in. A better solution for this increasing problem is to help drugaddicts.Government should create more centres of help, not only for people with good economic resources, but also for those who cannot afford it.


4. Do you think that capital punishment is a good idea?

Those in favor of capital punishment believe that it should bring the crime rates down and it is the ultimate crime deterrent. It might be usefull, but it shows a violent aspect ofhumankind and a direct violation of human rights. There are othere severe punishment for criminals like sentence for life, but justice must punish criminals with the correct sentence. When justice makes mistakes, it is when people think of the capital punishment.
